Nowak
Receives Top Engineering Award
Civil
engineering professor Andrzej S. Nowak has received the most prestigious award
given by the Warsaw University of Technology,
Poland’s
top engineering school and Nowak’s alma mater.
The Medal Politechniki Warszawskiej is given annually to someone who has made
significant achievements in science and engineering.
Nowak
was recognized for his contributions to structural engineering. He studies the
reliability of structures and conducts risk analysis for bridges and
buildings.
“I feel very honored,” Nowak said. “It was such a surprise. I didn’t
even know I was nominated.”
Nowak has been at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln for one year. He
previously taught at the University of Michigan for 25 years.
